Take a Look

Why Scout

Ask a youth member of Scouting Ireland why their friend should join and they will say because it’s fun, because they have adventures with their friends, because they get to go camping.

Gear?

Gear varies depending on the activity. Your local Scouters will give you a list of what is needed for each activity. Borrow, use second-hand, avail of Scout discounts in outdoors shops, and build their gear gradually to last many years both in and out of Scouts. The Scout Shop is available online and in Dublin, Bray, and Cork.

Scoutings Aim

The Aim of Scouting Ireland is to encourage the social, physical, intellectual, character, emotional and spiritual development of young people so that they may achieve their full potential and, as responsible citizens, to improve society.

Money

Costs vary from Group to Group and depend on the activities provided, transport costs, and if the Group has a Den of their own or has to rent a hall. Check with your local Group for details. Adult Scouters give their time for free and are aware of the costs parents face. They do their best to run events as cheaply as possible so that Scouting is available to every child.

Uniforms?

Beavers wear a royal blue sweater with navy trousers. Cubs wear a dark navy sweater with navy trousers. Scouts, Ventures and Rovers all wear a navy shirt with navy trousers. Each Group designs its own unique necker.
